Ø MRI
MRI (or magnetic resonance imaging) scan is a painless
radiology procedure that uses magnetism, radio waves, and a computer to
produce images of body structures. The MRI scanner is a tube surrounded by
a giant circular magnet. The patient is placed on a moveable bed that is
inserted into the magnet. The magnet creates a strong magnetic field that
aligns the protons of hydrogen atoms, which are then exposed to a beam of
radio waves.
This spins the various protons of the body, and they produce
a faint signal that is detected by the receiver portion of the MRI
scanner. The receiver information is processed by a computer, and the detailed
cross-sectional (2-dimensional) and 3-dimensional images of the inside of
your body without using ionizing radiation.
Check w/ your doctor before having MRI procedure if you:
- Are
pregnant, especially during the
first 3 months.
- Have tattoos or
permanent (tattooed) makeup. You might feel some mild discomfort or a
burning feeling on your skin from the metal in the darker inks of the
tattoo.
- Have been told
you have kidney problems
Ø CT-SCAN
CT-Scan can help doctors to visualize small nodules or
tumors, which they cannot see with a plain film X-ray. CT scan
images allow the doctor to look at the inside of the body. CT is noninvasive,
safe, and well-tolerated. It provides a highly detailed look at many different
parts of the body.
It combines a series of
X-ray images taken from different angles and uses computer processing to create
cross-sectional images, or slices, of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues
inside your body
CT scan has many uses,
but is particularly well-suited to quickly examine people who may have internal
injuries from car accidents or other types of trauma. A CT scan can be used to
visualize nearly all parts of the body and is used to diagnose disease or
injury as well as to plan medical, surgical or radiation treatment.
Ø ULTRASOUND
Ultrasound is safe and painless, and
produces pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound
imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, involves the use of a small transducer (probe) and
ultrasound gel placed directly on the skin. High-frequency sound waves are
transmitted from the probe through the gel into the body.
The transducer collects the sounds
that bounce back and a computer then uses those sound waves to create an image.
Ultrasound examinations do not use ionizing radiation , thus there is no radiation exposure
to the patient. Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can
show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood
flowing through blood vessels.
Ultrasound images have
many uses during pregnancy.
Ultrasounds offer many
advantages:
- They are generally painless and
do not require needles, injections, or incisions.
- Patients aren't exposed to
ionizing radiation,
making the procedure safe.
- There are no known harmful
effects
Ø X-RAY
X-ray is a quick,
painless test that produces images of the structures inside your body —
particularly your bones. An X-ray is a common
imaging test that’s been used for decades. It can help your doctor view the inside
of your body without having to make an incision. This can help them diagnose,
monitor, and treat many medical conditions.
X-rays are a type of radiation called electromagnetic
waves. X-ray imaging creates pictures of
the inside of your body. The most familiar use of x-rays is to
produce images of bones which can be checked for breaks or fractures.
Your
doctor may order an X-ray to:
- Examine an area where
you’re experiencing pain or discomfort
- Monitor the progression of
a diagnosed disease
- Check how well a prescribed treatment is working
X-ray beams pass through your body, and they are absorbed in different amounts depending on the density of the material they pass through. Dense materials, such as bone and metal, show up as white on X-rays.
Ø WOMEN’s WELLNESS
· Elastography
· Mammography
Mammography is a special type of
x-ray imaging used to create detailed images of the breast. Mammography uses low dose x-ray;
high contrast, high-resolution film; and an x-ray system designed specifically
for imaging the breasts. Successful treatment of breast cancer depends on early
diagnosis. Mammography plays a major role in early detection of breast cancers.
Mammography can show
changes in the breast well before a woman or her physician can feel them. Once
a lump is discovered, mammography can be key in evaluating the lump to
determine if it is cancerous. It can be used to check
for breast cancer in
women who have no signs or symptoms of the disease. It can also be used if you
have a lump or other sign of breast cancer.
When you have a
mammogram, you stand in front of an x-ray machine. The person who takes the
x-rays places your breast between two plastic plates. The plates press your
breast and make it flat. This may be uncomfortable, but it helps get a clear
picture.
